Elizabeth Fry

Elizabeth Fry (1780–1845), born Elizabeth Gurney, was a recorded Quaker minister. From 1813 she visited women in Newgate and pressed Parliament and European governments for women jailers, work, and schooling inside prisons. She is not a founder of the Society of Friends. She is the Friend whose public work made prison visiting a Quaker witness.
